Youth For Christ (YFC/KZN) Change Agents in partnership with Vibe FM hosted the Gender Based Violence Dialogue on Thursday, 25 October 2018 at K Cap Hall in KwaMashu.
The aim of the dialogue was to create a platform that will enable young people to speak up and raise concerns, thoughts and opinions regarding abuse. A panel that included the SAPS representatives, abuse victims and various speakers shared their life experiences and gave the audience an opportunity to ask questions.
Nothando Ndlovu, who is a Media Personality and Public Speaker shared how she was abused by her ex-husband a couple of years ago. Ndlovu said abuse is constant and never comes to an end. She advised abuse victims to speak out and break the silence. “We need to break the cycle of abuse in our society and home. We must be sensitive to abuse and say no to abusive and toxic relationships. Our bodies are not punching bags and we refuse to be abuse victims”, said Ndlovu.
Sane Shandu, Change Agents Coordinator said she is happy to see the orgainsation impacting young people positively.” It is our objective to promote positive behavioral change in the lives of young people through our customized programs. Our orgainsation continue to raise awareness and address social issues such as abuse, HIV\AIDS infection, teenage pregnancy, rape and domestic violence”, said Shandu.
