It was all smiles, joy and jubilation at the Mountain Rise informal settlements during the community sports day that was held on Saturday, 18 May 2019. The day saw Mountain- Rise community members get excited over various sports such as netball, soccer, 80m sprint, aerobics and dance competition. The winners and participants were rewarded with trophies, gold, silver and bronze medals. The event was graced by various stakeholders such as Imbali Active Studio, KZN Department of Health, MATCH, HIV and TB CARE, UKZN Community Development Association and Albany bakeries.
Community member, Kabelo Mokoena commented that he was thrilled and inspired by the sports day that was aimed at promoting and encouraging teamwork, discipline and healthy life style.” The sports day was fun and exciting. I am also excited that my team won 2 – 0 over our opponents. The aerobics were amazing and thank you for the health screenings and services that were provided”, said Mokoena.
YFC/KZN Khayalethu Community Project Coordinator, Simphiwe Sithole said the community sports day was aimed at encouraging and improving the physical and mental health of children, youth and adults. “Our organization presented this life changing event to inspire, motivate and encourage the Mountain Rise community to get active. We believe that, sports has a positive impact on children, youth and adults in areas such as behavior and discipline”, said Sithole.
