To avoid the dependency syndrome, Youth For Christ KwaZulu- Natal has developed and launched a new social enterprise called Project Hope in September 2018. Project Hope is aimed at changing lives of women, youth and children living in various communities of Pietermaritzburg and Durban through entrepreneurship.

This program is also aimed at achieving community development and sustainability and it’s also an initiative and strategy for preventing homelessness in Pietermaritzburg and Durban.

Project Hope shares and tells their story by sewing and selling items such as cushions, shopping bags, accessories, water proof toiletry and cosmetic bags. The project has mentors who work and support the beneficiary’s in terms of marketing and selling their products/items.

There is a remuneration model that is in place that ensures that beneficiaries are remunerated accordingly and fairly. Some of the funds are invested back into the entity to keep it going and to ensure sustainability.

Youth For Christ KZN, Acting Regional Director, Liz Govender said she is happy to see so much progress in the orgainsation and hope that women and young people will make use of this incredible and life changing project. She added that the orgainsation continues to empower and  give hope to children, youth and women.

“Our aim is to equip, enable and engage with our beneficiaries. Through Project Hope we encourage independence in women and young people. This project is aimed at changing lives of many people, homes and communities”, said Govender. She added that the organisation continues to start programs that will prevent children and young people from living in the streets. “We strive to prevent and decrease the number from homelessness in our province”, she added.
