YFC/KZN Tennyson House Girls shelter has recently admitted nine girls. The girls attended a back to school prayer that was hosted by the Soul Combine Club at Durban Miracle Centre on Saturday, 12 January 2019.
Tennyson House Social Worker, Lethu Hlegwa said the girls came from various communities surrounding Durban. “We are delighted to assist, support, care and give hope to the girls. Our job is to engage, equip, enable and empower them as possible as we can”, said Hlengwa. She added that this year was opened in style with a prayer that encouraged, revived and motivated the girls.
One of the beneficiaries, Noma Nsundu (16) said she dropped out of school in 2017 to live in the streets. Nsudu said she is excited to be reinstated in school and determined to work hard to rebuild her relationship with her family. “I am happy to be given an opportunity to to change my life. I hope to set a good example to other girls who are still in the streets”, said Nsundu.
