Youth for Christ KwaZulu Natal in partnership with Umsunduzi Museum visited the
Ekujabuleni Children’s Home for an educational tour.
Ekujabuleni Childrens Home is located in Edendale Pietermaritzburg, the home has 40
children under the care of Mrs Qali who is the director of the home. Due to COVID- 19
restrictions some facilities are still not open for visitors or tours. Mrs Qali took this upon
herself and requested that we come visit them for an educational talk, in light of the children
going back to school they will need some session to refresh their minds.
The talk was about the City of Choice Pietermaritzburg, how it came about to being called
Pietermaritzburg, the ancient history of the city which was presented by Njabulo Mpungose
from the uMsunduzi Museum. Thula Khanyile from Youth for Christ KwaZulu Natal Change
Agents Coordinator unpacked on bullying at school and at home. “Bullying can impact you
on physical, mental and emotional levels, these then cause effects such as lack of self-
esteem and others end up saying they find comfort in drugs. It is always advisable that if you
feel that you being bullied you must talk to someone and if you are the perpetrator you must
know that you are causing harm to the other person, said Thula.
The children performed their beautiful play about how challenging life is when you have a
low esteem, the impact that bullying has on a person. Mrs Qali the Children’s home director
thanked the organisations for their visit and requested for more visits in the future.
