The Aftercare programme of Tennyson House Project works in synergy with the beneficiary and their families/guardian.
The reunification process (bringing the family back together) is the primary focus of Tennyson House Project. Youth for Christ works as the mediator and facilitator to this process.
Spending time with parents and guardians empowering them with skills and knowledge to aid them in their journey to finical capability. Many parents in KwaZulu-Natal are illiterate or poorly educated and have no certifications to the skills they possess.
Financial capability of a home is a primary factor to the collapse of most homes and for the unfortunate situation of children choosing street life and substance abuse over education and a future.
The Aftercare programme offers skills development to promote self-reliance and self-help. Featured in the pictures is a session conducted at the Umgeni Road Youth for Christ campus in Durban. Baking, arts and crafts are some of the skills taught to promote home industries.
These industries are part of the self-reliance technique which empowers communities to liberate themselves from poverty. ... See MoreSee Less

Khayalethu started a new project which is focusing on sanitation and health in some of the informal settlements and communities that Khayalethu is already working in.
Roxanne Jewell, our new Khayalethu team member, will be leading the so called “Dignity and Health Project” – adequate sanitation, running water and proper access to sanitary wear give people without the above a sense of dignity. And in turn helps with the overall health of the community.
Some long term goals will be to see flush toilets in communities but obviously that is a long road and involves local municipalities.
For now Roxanne will be focusing on building relationships with major stakeholders (ward councilors, community members, current YFC teams in various communities etc). She will also be doing lots of research into pit latrines and other non-flush toilet ideas and how to keep them usable, looking at financially viable options for sanitary wear (menstrual cups and reusable sanitary towels) and also learning as much as she can about water plans and laws here in KZN. ... Future leaders inspiring the children and youth of Tennyson House.
Tennyson House Project received a welcomed visit from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. This visit saw students empowering youth with HOPE and encouraging them to sound academic advice for the future.
The students spent time at the Youth for Christ Durban campus, at 1280 Umgeni Road. Cleaning, gardening and motivational speeches were the order of the day.
