In June, the residential care team held a Parents workshop with the aim of providing parents with skills on the issues observed during our interaction with both parents and children. The main focus was on child participation and child protection, and it was successful.
Out of 15 parents we were expecting, only 2 didn’t make it so it was a good turnout. Mphokuhle Gwala – Social Worker covered the topic of Child Protection and Nkululeko Malapane (former YFC Community Staff) covered the topic of Child Participation. The girls enjoyed interacting with their parents in the activities. Parents shared that they now understand how important it is to involve their children in decision making in their families. They also learnt that it is their responsibility to protect their children and to keep them safe at all times.
