Interns Family Day

09/11/15 3:08 PM

On 27th July we help a family day for the Khayalethu interns at the Pine Street boys shelter.

The families of all interns were invited in order to try and help the families better understand the work we do at Khayalethu, the interns place within this work, and also the purpose of the Internship Pro-gram.

The day was mostly facilitated by the interns, we took turns explaining the role of each team. The explained the work they do and what they learn from being apart of the Internship program. Each team had some practical demonstrations of what they do as part of their work.

First was the community team who begun the day with a lovely icebreaker/game to get everyone energised and ready. The residential team then had us help make up some beds in one of the bedrooms and also gave us a demonstration of how they try to make their bible studies more interactive. The Outreach team was able to show us a slideshow with photos demonstrating the work they do with the children on the streets, and the administration team did a great job of demonstrating their work by welcoming all the visitors and getting a register filled for the day.

We finished the day with a lovely lunch prepared by Mum Nanah and her dedicated group of women.

Unfortunately, the weather on the day was not conducive to people leaving their houses meaning only four families were represented. We did however have a great turnout from YFC with 13 interns, 5 supervisors and Sally (director) who attended. It was great to have so much support for the interns, and everyone agreed that they all did a great job. I believe the day was a success, if not for the purpose we intended, then for seeing the interns take responsibility and for everyone to learn a little more about the different projects.
