“Hard work always pays off”, these are the words that Zama Khawula (16) said during the Change Agents German Tour send-off that was held last Thursday, 31 October 2019 at the King Shaka International Airport.
Khawula who was part of the team that were nominated after writing an essay that stood out, giving her an opportunity to take part in the 2019 Sustainable Development Goals conference that is held in Germany. She said she was grateful to be a part of the Change Agents programme and to be a peer educator at her respective school. “Our schools and communities are always regarded as less privileged but today I am proud to say that I am privileged to be granted an opportunity to go oversees for two weeks. I will be representing my school, community, city and country. I am a peer educator and I believe that I am the voice of children who cannot speak for themselves”, said excited Khawula.
Cllr Mpume Sithole, who was representing the office of the Mayor, Ethekwini Municipality said they applaud Youth for Christ and the team for their hard- work and for being positive about bringing change and doing well in their schools and communities. “We are proud of you and hope you will represent us well in Germany”, said Sithole.
